Sun throws his shadow far and wide to the breakers. Beauty at last.

There are voices echoing operatic off the cliffs.
His mind in tune with the love of the landscape, call and response.

Maybe it’s the return we imagine, maybe not.
Maybe we’ll be reunited but I doubt it.
Nothing works out the way we expect.

Steel-bending man hears a joke from a songbird, the funniest he’s heard.
Something about feathers held down with gold, his laughter roars of waves.

He’s fought and loved, he’s held the flowers of the world, made steel as soft as skin.
Far from dark, far from bitter cold, rust returns to earth and waves return to sea.
